二、能带不定式和-ing分词而意义不同的动词
在forget, remember, stop, go on, try等动词后面既能带不定式也能带-ing分词，但意义不同。这类动词又可分为以下三小类，说明如下：
A)在remember, forget之后，用-ing分词表示动作发生在“记得”、“忘记”之前，用不定式则表示动作发生在“记得”、“忘记”之后。试比较：
forget to do sth. 忘记（去）做某事
forget doing sth. 忘记做过某事
He has forgotten to visit the Great Wall.
他忘了去游长城（实际上没有去）。
He will never forget visiting the Great Wall.
他将永远不会忘记游长城这件事（实际已游览过）。
I forgot to meet her in 1980.
1980年我忘了去会见她（我没有去会见她，因为我忘了曾作过这种安排）。
I forgot meeting her in 1980.
我忘记了曾在1980年见过她（我曾见过她，但是随后忘记了这件事）。
I forgot to close the door. 我忘记关门了。
I forgot closing the door. 我关上了门，但我忘记了。
I forgot to ask him about it. 我忘了去问他这件事。
I forgot asking him about it. 我问过他这件事，但我却忘记了。
remember to do sth. 记得（要）做某事
remember doing sth. 记得做过某事
I remembered to fill in the form. 我记住了去填这个表。
I remembered filling in the form. 我记得我曾经填写过这个表。
I remember to post your letter. 我记着给你去邮信。
I remember posting your letter. 我现在还记得给你邮信的事。
I remember to post the letter. 我没有忘记要寄信。
I remember posting the letter. 我记得把信寄出去了。
4. We must remember to close that window.
我们必须记得要把那扇窗关好。
5. I remember playing there when I was little.
我记得小时候在那儿玩过。
B)在stop, go on等动词之后，通常用-ing分词结构作宾语；若用不定式结构，便不是宾语而是目的状语，相当于in order to。比较：
stop doing sth. （动名词doing作stop的宾语）
停止/不再做某事
stop to do sth. （to do作stop的目的状语）
停下来去做某事(为了做某事而站住不动或停止正在做的事)
He stopped talking. 他停止了谈话。
He stopped to talk. 他停下来去谈话。
Stop talking and listen to me! 别再说话，听我说！
On the way home I stopped to buy a newspaper. 回家途中我停下来买报纸。
It has stopped raining. 雨停了。
He stopped to pick up a piece of paper. 他停下来去捡一张纸。
We stopped taking pictures. 意思是“我们不再照相了”。
We stopped to take pictures. 意思则是“我们停下正在做的事而去照相”。
go on doing sth. 不停地做某事（或一度中止后又继续做某事）
go on to do sth. （完成某事后）接着做另一事
1. He said nothing but just went on working.
他什么都不说只是不停地干活。
2. He went on working until he was 91.
他一直工作到91岁。
3. A moment later, the Class 4 runner fell and hurt his leg, but he quickly got up and went on running.
片刻之后，四班的选手摔倒了，腿受了伤，但他迅速爬起来继续跑。
4. After a short break for coffee they went on working until 3 o’clock.
他们休息一会儿喝了咖啡，然后继续工作到三点。
5. The book goes on to describe his experiences in the army.
本书继而描述了他在部队的经历。
6. He went on to speak of his war experiences.
他转而谈到了他的战争经历。
7. Go on to do the other exercise after you have finished this one.
做完这条练习后接着做另一条。
They went on learning Lesson 7.
他们继续学习第7课。（为同一课）
They went on to learn Lesson 7.
他们接着学习第7课。（学完第6课后，接着学习第7课。）
C)在try之后，用-ing分词结构还是用不定式结构，取决于该动词本身的不同含义。例如：
try to do sth. 试图/想要/设法/努力做某事
try doing sth. 试着做某事
1. What are you trying to do?
你想要做什么？
2. He tried to control his voice.
他尽量控制他的声音。
3. I tried to get there on time, but I was too late.
我设法准时到那里，但迟到了很长时间。
4. I tried hard not to laugh.
我强忍住不笑出来。
5. She was trying not to cry.
她强忍住不哭出来。
6. John isn’t here. Try phoning his home number.
约翰不在这儿。给他家里打电话试试看。
7. Try logging off and logging on again.
先注销再重新登录，试试看。
8.‘I’ve tried everything but I can’t get the baby to sleep.’
‘Have you tried taking her out in the car?’
“我试过所有方法，还是无法使婴儿入睡。”
“试过用车载她出去走走没有？”
You should try to eat more fruit.
你应该尽量多吃些水果。
You should try eating more fruit.
你应该试试多吃水果。（看身体会否好些）
Sheila tried to bribe the jailor.
表示“希拉企图贿赂狱卒，但并没有实现这一动作。”
Sheila tried bribing the jailor.
表示“希拉确实贿赂了狱卒，但不一定得到了她所需要的东西。”
